Christmas in New Zealand is one of the best times of the year, most of us will take a long and deserved break and enjoy (hopefully) great weather and BBQs. So, whether you are leaving Auckland or staying to enjoy the solitude, here are our tips to have a great holiday.

Orewa Christmas on the beach

 

When: On Saturday 23rd December 2017

 

If you like a kiwi Christmas what’s better than spending it at the beach. Orewa’s Christmas spectacular and fireworks display is always a winner.

 

Raising money for Ronald McDonald House and families, this event is not to be missed. Come along and enjoy a family- friendly, fun filled event.

 

They will have a music stage, rides, food vendors and of course you can enjoy the beautiful Orewa Beach.

Auckland Christmas Light Displays

 

Well, what can we say- Christmas is the best time to show off your lights! Here’s a great list of displays in Auckland:

 

Lego Christmas Tree

 

If your kids or yourself like Lego: The Lego Christmas Tree is the event for you!

 

When: From the 25th of November to 27th of December 2017

 

Taller than a two-storey house and built from over half a million LEGO bricks, the LEGO Christmas Tree is lighting up Aotea Square.

 

The jaw-dropping giant LEGO Christmas Tree stands over 10 metres tall, weighs 3.5 tonnes and took more than 1,200 hours to build.

Franklin Road Christmas Lights

 

 

 When: Friday 1 December to Monday 26 December 2017: 8:30pm to 11:00pm at Franklin Road, Ponsonby, Auckland

 

The Franklin Road Christmas lights are now a tradition in Auckland central, they turned on at 8.30pm until 11pm every night from the 1st until the 26th December. Bring the family, bring your friends and enjoy the Christmas spirit, courtesy of the residents of Franklin Road.

Sky Tower

When: Now until Wednesday 28 December 2016

The Sky Tower will be lit up like a Christmas Tree until the 28 December to celebrate the festive season.

COST: FREE (Lights)

 

Also,  you can take the kids up Sky Tower to visit Visit Santa this December on weekends and for the week before Christmas from 11am to 3pm. For the regular entry price, you get to go up Sky Tower, meet Santa and you get one free printed photo per family and a digital copy to take home; decorate your own Christmas tree ornament to take home, dress up, and post your letter to the North Pole. The entrance fee to Sky Tower is FREE for children 5 years and under, $12 for children aged 6 to 14 years and $29 for adults; a family pass for 2 adults and 2 children is $65

Auckland City Mission, Santa’s helpers

 

The Santa’s Helpers Appeal is back and will run from Monday 20 November – Monday 18 December, 2017! Auckland schools, churches, businesses and community groups can support this appeal by collecting funds, non-perishable food and new, unwrapped Christmas gifts to support local families in desperate need this Christmas.

Love Soup

 

Volunteer your time to Love Soup - At Love Soup, we’re all about Feeding the Need, Mind, Body, and Spirit. Love Soup assists communities in Auckland, Rotorua, Tokoroa, and Whangarei to develop programs to feed the homeless and those that need daily nourishment.

So there you have it, come late December thousands of Kiwis get ready for their annual holiday and Christmas break.

 

They look forward to lazy days at the beach or the bach (or crib), games of backyard cricket, food on the barbie and the holiday uniform of shorts, jandals and T-shirts. We certainly are!

 

Even though we’re well into the crazy Christmas season, make time to enjoy the festivities and make some great memories with your family!
